Background and Description
Here's one for the preschool crowd, especially around Thanksgiving time (doubly so if you're a vegetarian). A preschooler let's his imagination get away from him in this save-my-turkeys-from-a-very-hungry-fox romp. Calamities abound, but never do in the young boy's decorous and facile turkeys. Preschoolers will squeal with delight as the young boy steps in—not once, but twice—to save his turkeys, ensuring that not one of them will make it to the Thanksgiving table. And his dog-turned-hungry-fox romps right along with the young protagonist (morphing back into a docile little pup just in time to end this imaginative tale).

Reviews
Ken Wilson-Max's artistic modeling on these spreads will inspire future turkey makers to explore new media. W. Nikola-Lisa keeps sentences simple and enthused so that the story's appeal will not be limited to Thanksgiving's traditional art sessions. —School Library Journal
Right at a preschooler's level, the artwork, featuring Ken Wilson-Max's signature African American boy, has humor as well as momentum, especially in the scene showing the turkeys turned loose and gobble-gobbling over a bright orange, two-page spread. This clever mixing of art and a spot-on text by W. Nikola-Lisa provides a fun story as well as a surefire craft idea that kids will want to try. —Booklist
