Background and Description

Several years ago my wife gave me a Sumi-e ink collage she made using a Japanese accordion book. When you stretch the book out to its fullest it makes an amazing panorama of earthly and celestial images. It instantly reminded me of a story that I had written for young readers many years ago titled Gaya Lives in a Blue House, a story about the magic and mystery of life and the quest to reach one's potential. Here's an excerpt from the book…

Gaya lives in a blue house.
The blue house has a door.
Behind the door's a meadow
where the universe was born.

The floor is ringed with mountains;
the walls are deep with trees.
Gaya climbs the stairway,
rides the midnight breeze.

The stairs lead to a hallway
lined with doors on either side.
Behind each door there is a room—
young Gaya slips inside.
