Background and Description
The parent to this book, America: My Land, Your Land, Our Land, came out in 1997 in hardcover, in English, with illustrations by fourteen artists of color. It was a unique book idea, but in hardcover it was not hitting the right audience so the publisher redid the book in 2001 as a bilingual - English/Spanish - board book for the toddler crowd. Wow! What a great idea. Because the book is a real hit with parents, teachers, and caregivers of young children who want to introduce their young charges to a second language and to some basic concepts of American culture.

Reviews
Youngsters can celebrate differences, read Spanish, and learn opposites in America: A Book of Opposites/Un Libro de Contrarios by W. Nikola-Lisa, with 10 different illustrators. Each double-page spread, representing a different "land" in the United States, illustrates a pair of opposites in both English and Spanish. For example, a boy makes a path of footprints on a beach in Hawaii between the words "Hot Land/Tierra cálida." On the opposite page, a girl builds a snowman in Alaska between the words, "Cold Land/Tierra fríja." Publishers Weekly
